Does the image light up or just the edges of the mouse pad?

Only the edges turn on. But the design is that bright.

You do not need any batteries. The LED lighting is powered by a mini USB cord that is included.

Does it have a memory function so it remembers what lighting mode you was last on?

Yes, our rgb mouse pad has memory function.

How can this be cleaned?

You can wipe extended mouse pad with a damp cloth, but you can't soak it in the water or put it in the washing machine.
